The Bar Car is the only locally owned neighborhood bar on Denver's busy Colorado Boulevard between I-25 and I-70. Owned and operated by Jeremy Matzke (a.k.a. The DrinkSlinger) and Victor H. Muñiz, the Bar Car boasts comfort, fun, reasonably priced drinks, and strong community partnerships. Upon first glance, the Bar Car reminds you of a train’s bar car of yesteryear. The old world decor, with oil paintings, dark mahogany shading, and multiple brass chandeliers, returns customers to the time where getting a drink was a communal routine and one can always expect a welcoming air. The Bar Car hosts karaoke twice a week, as well as many other unique events such as celebrating the birthdays of Elvis and Johnny Cash with live music and themed activities. In fact, this small community bar throws one of the best and largest Kentucky Derby parties in Denver, benefiting the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LSS). This broadly recognized event includes live bands, hat contests, and the race itself on the big screen with the extremely competitive entry fee of around $10. In 2011, the Bar Car was awarded “Best Old Bar Brought Back to Life” in Westword’s ‘Best of Denver 2011”. So come join the party and relish in our motto to “Drink Up & Be Somebody”.
