5th Annual Kentucky Derby

"Let’s face it: The Kentucky Derby’s one of those things that’s more about the pomp and circumstance than the event itself.

It’s two minutes long. Most things with that much lead up that end after just two minutes result in unreturned phone calls the next day.

Here at Bar Car, we realized long ago that the event really IS the pomp and circumstance. Like so many things around here, it’s a reason to throw a good party. And this year’s shindig is the Secretariat of Kentucky Derby Parties in the Mile High.

We’ve got bands –Kerry Pastine and the Crime Scene, a mix of vintage and modern rock, is headlining. We've got That Damn Sasquatch, a Bluegrass band, playing prior to the race and Watin' on Ray, a booty-sh...akin', good time band, is playing directly after the race. We’ve got booze sponsors in the form of Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, PBR and Breckenridge Brewery. And of course, the hats. Yes, Kentucky Derby party hats are a must, so be creative. Make sure to avoid flammable substances, and nothing alive (Boy was THAT a fiasco a couple years back). And Mint Juleps. No one makes ’em better than the Drinkslinger.

And again this year we’ve partnered with a great cause: The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training – the world’s largest and most successful sports endurance charity. So they’ll be hosting our general carnival atmosphere, except without the “carnies.” There will be giveaways from liquor swag to concert tickets on hand. And a silent auction!

So, get your best seersucker suit to the dry cleaners and mark the date on your calendar: May 2nd, 1:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Drink up and be somebody."
